Obituary

Margarita Grigoryeva (July 4, 1936 - May 15, 2023) passed away at the age of 86, leaving behind a cherished legacy as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born on July 4, 1936, in Baku, Azerbaijan, Margarita was the youngest of four children born to Edward and Margarita Vigeant. Her early years were marked by adversity when her family, due to their German roots on her father's side, was displaced to Kazakhstan during World War II. Tragically, her father was drafted at that same time and she never had the chance to see him again.

Margarita displayed remarkable resilience throughout her life. Despite facing hardships, she pursued a career as an elementary school teacher. However, two separate accidents early in her career resulted in the loss of sight in one eye and partial sight in the other, a challenge she confronted with unwavering determination.
On November 30, 1956, Margarita married her beloved husband, Aleksey Grigoryev. Together, they raised four children: Svetlana, Vladimir, Aleksandr, and Yelena. Margarita was deeply devoted to her family and actively engaged in her local church community. She found solace and joy in singing and reading poetry. Margarita's compassionate nature shone through her involvement in prayer meetings and her selfless service to those in need within the church.

In 1992, Margarita and Aleksey made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States, where they settled in Ithaca, NY. Margarita embraced her new home and spent 28 fulfilling years in the community. She later moved to Freeville, NY, where she resided with her family during the last three years of her life. Margarita's faith remained a guiding force as she actively participated in a local Russian-speaking church and shared the gospel within her retirement community. Her warm and generous spirit manifested in her love for cooking and nurturing her grandchildren, who were always welcomed with open arms.
Margarita Grigoryeva leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of love, resilience, and hospitality. She is survived by her four children, 32 grandchildren, and 71 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

The funeral service in honor of Margarita's life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Perkins Funeral Home, located at 55 W. Main St. Dryden, NY 13053.
