Donald Leonard Sr. Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald A. Leonard Sr, at the Groton Nursing Home in Groton, NY on March 20, 2020 from natural causes; four days prior to his 97th birthday.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marlene, his daughter Diania, her mother Enid, his brothers Malcomb, Harold, Jackie, Wilber, Robert, Gordon, and Ronald, his sister Elouise and his step-son Eric.

To cherish his memory, Don is survived by son, Don (Marge) Leonard; his sister, Lucille Sopp; step children, Leonard Niswender, Vicki Phinney, John (Peggy) Niswender and Duane (Nancy) Niswender; grandson, Dennis (Rachel) Leonard; great grandchildren, Olivia Leonard and Justin Leonard; several step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Born on March 24, 1923 in Cortland County, Don became an Army Medic onboard a ship in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of WWII, serving our country for over 2-1/2 years.  With a handful of medals and an Honorable Discharge from the Army, Don went to work for R.H. Miller in Homer, NY where he stayed until retirement.  Because of his longevity in life, career and love, Don touched many lives with his humorous words and infectious smile. His keen wit, sense of emotion and never ending generosity will truly be welcome to those he meets in Heaven.

Burial with Military Honors will take place at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY.
