William Townsend

WILLIAM J. TOWNSEND, 92 of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully on October 7, 2007 in Florida. He was born in Tompkins County, NY on December 22, 1914. His family was among the original settlers of the land surrounding Ithaca and Danby dating back to 1834. Mr. Townsend served in the 663 Engineering Company of the US Army during WW II. He was the recipient of many commendations for his actions in the Ardennes Forest, Normandy, Northern Europe and Rhineland conflicts. He retired from Crucible Steel Company in Solvay, NY. He was also a highly skilled auto mechanic.

He will be dearly missed by sons, Lynn (Dorothea) of VA, William (Linda) of NY, Brian of NY; daughters, Sheila (Michael) Townsend-Driansky of NY and Eileen Conley of NY; sister, Florence Davis of NY; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Ithaca, NY.
