SYBIL LANE MARTIN

Sybil Lane Martin of Lansing, NY, passed away after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer on October 28, 2024.  She was 72 years old.

Sybil was born June 28, 1952, one of nine children of Wilson F. and Stella L. Martin. The Martin family owned and operated a dairy farm on the corner of Ellis Hollow Road and Route 79 in Slaterville, for many years, and this is where Sybil grew up.

After graduating from Ithaca High School in 1970, Sybil took some classes at TC3, but ultimately started working full time for New York State Electric and Gas in the computer room, which is where she would retire from approximately 30 years later. Sybil loved to travel and had been all over the world- Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Europe, Ireland- she just had to kiss that Blarney Stone. She also traveled all over the United States. She was an avid crafter and was constantly repurposing items into treasures. She LOVED to dance and was the life of every party. However, most important to her was spending time with her family. Christmas and Easter cookie decorating were annual events in Sybil’s home, as well as weekly family dinners. She brought joy and happiness to everyone who knew her, especially her grandchildren who were the center of her world. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all.

Sybil is survived by daughters, Amber (Zachary) Marshall; and Erin (Garrett) Greczyn; her six grandchildren Victoria Walters, Olivia Walters, Cecilia Walters, Donna Marshall, Jameson Marshall, and Scarlett Greczyn; by her sisters Harriet (Ray) Ink, Donna (Leroy) Crispell, Alice “Tizzy” Jordan, Jean Hall, Kim (Bill) Case, and a sister-in-law, Anne Martin, as well as by so many other extended family members. Sybil was predeceased by her parents Wilson F. and Stella L. Martin; her two brothers, Edson and Wilson E. Martin; and her sister Joan Martin.
