Shane “Hump” Humphrey, born in Cortland, passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2026, at the age of 49.
A graduate of Homer High School, Shane was a gifted athlete who loved sports throughout his life. During high school, he competed in football, lacrosse, and wrestling earning titles as the 1994 Section 3 Class B Champion and 1994 OHSL Central Champion in wrestling.
Shane had deep faith in the Lord and a heart for family. His smile could light up a room, and he loved being surrounded by those he cared about. He found joy in fishing, hunting, music, history, gardening, and daydreaming. He was loving, kind, caring, funny, and intelligent, and he cared deeply for others.
Throughout his life, Shane personally saved four people, two children and two adults—at different times, a reflection of his courage and selflessness. Those who knew Shane knew him as a wonderful and deeply loved person. He loved music and was always creating it in his own way.
Shane is survived by his son, Kasey Kabanuk; daughter, Naydine Humphrey; granddaughter, Russcelia; mother, Wendy (Chris) Oster; father, Darby (Joyce) Humphrey; brother, Troy (Jessica) Humphrey; sister, Amber (RJ) Eckard; brother, Mac (Monica) Brown; sister, Amy (Mike) Geaslin; brother, Carter McDonald; nieces and nephews Caleb, Phoebe, Carson, Caylee, Sophia, and Addison; grandmother, Delores Stillman; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Stillman; grandparents, Robert and Shirley Burlingame; and aunt, Doreen Stillman.
Shane will be remembered for his big heart, his faith, his humor, his love of the outdoors, and the many lives he touched.
A celebration of Shanes life will be held May 17, 2026 from 1:00 - 4:00PM at the Homer American Legion, 63 S. Main St., Homer, NY 13077.
