Roscoe J. Hatfield

MORAVIA - Roscoe J. "Rocky" Hatfield, age 77, of Mill Stream Court, Moravia, NY passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 10, 2016 in his home.
Born May 24, 1939 in Auburn, NY he was a son of the late George and Hilda Hall Hatfield. Anxious to serve his country, he left high school to join the US Army, where he served honorably from 1963 to 1969. Later in life, he returned to college to earn a degree in Criminal Justice from TC3 which he was very proud of. He was able to put his degree to use working as a Security Guard for his alma mater. He also used his degree while working at the Louis Gossett Residential Center in Lansing, NY. Earlier in life he was employed with Brockway Trucks in Cortland, NY as well as owning his own bar, "Rocky's" Bar in Lake Como, NY. Rocky was quick with a joke, had a mind for numbers, and enjoyed puzzles as well as dancing. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to the track.
He is survived by his children, Vicky S.T. Smith of Cortland, NY and Lonny L. Hatfield of East Homer, NY; grandchildren, Adam R. Thompson, Alyssa A. Smith, Zachary H. Hatfield, Aysia L. Smith; great grandchildren, Austyn, Maddyson, Jayden and Emma; siblings, Roberta Wise, Rosemary Saltsman, Roger Hatfield and Roxanna Barnum as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Hatfield; grandson, Alex K. Smith; siblings, Roderick Hatfield and Ronald Hatfield.
As per his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Country Music Park, Cortland, NY on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 1 pm. with military honors provided by the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team and Pastor Archie Smith officiating.
