Richard Ernest “Dick” Jorgensen

October 9, 1943 – November 13, 2025

Richard Ernest Jorgensen, known to all as Dick, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York. Born on October 9, 1943, Dick lived a life defined by creativity, curiosity, and craftsmanship.

Dick proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying with him experiences that shaped the rest of his life. After his service, he pursued his passions as a physicist, artist, and craftsman, blending science and art in ways that inspired those around him. His proudest achievement was the creation of the Yellow Barn Inn, a place that reflects his vision, skill, and love of beauty.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Liliane, in 2014. Dick cherished her memory and missed her deeply every day thereafter. He was also predeceased by his stepson Michael Fitts, his brother Stephen Jorgensen, and his parents Wilbur and Dorothy Jorgensen.

Dick is survived by his stepson Brian Fitts, Brian’s wife Lauren, and their children Matthew, Andrew, and Sophia. He is also survived by his brothers, David and Martin Jorgensen, as well as many nieces and nephews—especially his nephew Christian Brocard, who lovingly helped care for Dick later in his life.

He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his devotion to his work, and the warmth he shared with family, friends, and all who crossed his path. His legacy lives on in the spaces he built, the art he created, and the lives he touched.
