Raymond Randolph Marsh Jr.
February 19, 1952 - June 30, 2008
Ray passed away June 30, 2008, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His longtime friend Rose Kunicky was at his side.
Ray was born February 19, 1952 in Boston, MA and was raised in West Harford, CT, where he attended the public schools. His brilliance was noted early, as was his natural gravitation toward mechanical issues and engineering. He spent a summer at Lehigh University but was accepted into the prestigious Sibley School of Mechanical Design and Engineering at Cornell University, where he graduated with 2 degrees: one in Engineering, the other, an MBA. His life’s work included mechanical design and he was the best at it. As a child this meant building go-carts, later building and remodeling high performance cars, and later still building his home alone from the ground up.
He was frequently chosen to travel to third world countries to repair turbines and to provide electricity in emergency situations. Randy was an avid sportsman, Captain of both his high school Ice Hockey and Lacrosse teams. He was an outstanding skier, a sport he retained a passion for until the end. He was a Boy Scout and served for many years as a scout leader in CT, and then for his own children in Ithaca NY.
Randy is predeceased by Ray senior, a medical doctor, and his mom Shirley May Gardner Marsh, a nurse. He leaves 2 sons, Ian and Eric Marsh, and 4 siblings James Marsh, an orthopedic surgeon at Yale, Barry Marsh, PhD, DVM a Veterinarian in West Hartford, CT. He leaves a sister Nancy Marsh, APRN, a nurse who teaches and practices nursing in Michigan, and Richard Marsh, PhD, a Professor of Psychology at University of Georgia. He leaves 2 grandchildren, multiple cousins and many friends.
It was Ray’s wish that there be no service, however, it is hoped that in the near future, those of us close to Randy will come together and celebrate the life of a hardworking, brilliant individual who may best be remembered for his ethical values and practical jokes. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family.
