Penny Rae Simmons

Penny Rae Simmons, age 82, of Dryden, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026 with her children at her side. Penny was born on September 23, 1943 in Gouverneur, NY. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Ruth Noble. Penny lived most of her life in Dryden, NY where she raised her four children. Penny loved spending time in her flower gardens, playing games with her family and hosting holidays and picnics for family and friends. Everyone was always welcome in Penny’s home, there was always room for more. Penny loved children and spent many years caring for other people’s children in her own home and at Who-Ville Daycare, where she worked alongside her daughters. In retirement Penny dedicated a majority of her time to her grandchildren. She was a proud grandma of 8 and supported her grandchildren in everything they did. As a mother and a grandmother she attended countless sports games including whole weekends at wrestling tournaments and soccer games in the snow. If there was a game, recital, concert or school play you would find Penny in the audience cheering on her kids, grandkids and their friends. She was always there and was known for her supply of snacks.In the last year Penny became a Great Grandmother to the light of her life, Amelia Jo. They had a special bond and loved each other dearly. Amelia’s siblings, Mikey, Alice and Nolan were fortunate to meet Penny who loved them dearly and they loved their Grandma Penny.Penny is survived by her children Kelly (Robert) Tiddick of Owego, Jeffrey (Jolene) Simmons of West Danby, Randy (Jo Ann) Simmons of West Monroe and Tracey (Frederick) Bachner of Dryden and her grandchildren, Dillon Tiddick, Dustin Tiddick, and Maddison (Joseph) Murcko, Brandon Simmons, Lillian (Michael Seager) Bachner, Claudia (Jared Shilliff) Bachner, Frederick Bachner III, and Joseph Bachner, and her great grandchildren, Amelia Bachner and Michael, Alice and Nolan Seager.Penny is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Abrantes of Mexico, Edward Noble (Lori Scott) of Gouverneur, Vickie (John Cochrane) Thayer of McLean and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Penny was predeceased by her long time partner, Albert VanDeWeert, Jr. and her brothers, Terry Noble and Richard (Ric) Noble.
