Michael David Short, born on May 20, 1953 in Cortland, New York, went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2024. He was 71 years old. Through out his life he lived in various states with his last residence being in Louisa, Kentucky.
Michael managed many companies through out his life, yet his love for horses lead to his final profession as a horse trainer, and also showing and judging many horse shows. He traveled in the United States and Internationally in his profession. He was a judge of horse shows with 5 different horse breeds. He was on the Board of the American Paint Horse Association for many years and served a s President of the APHA for one year. He enjoyed teaching others about horses, and especially enjoyed teaching children how to ride, showmanship and all around care of their horse. He was admired and loved by many whom he crossed paths with in his career with horses and in his personal life.
Preceding him in death was his maternal grandparents, Clayton and Iva Short, also his aunts Marlene Kysier, and Gayle White.
He is survived by a loving mother Sandra Hackett and his beloved dog Annie of Louisa, Kentucky. He is also survived by two brothers, Todd (Jamielee) Hackett of Louisa, Kentucky, Jeffrey (Cindy) Hackett of Buffalo, New York, and a sister, Christine (Joe) Miller of Groton, New York, along with many nephews and nieces. Other survivors include two aunts, Lois Cross of Hartford, New York and Judy (Robert) Patterson of Rock Island, Tennessee, and many cousins. Also survived by his life long friend Becky Holcomb of Richford, New York.
Michael was loved by so many across the country both friends and family. His laughter and contagious smile will be missed, yet all of us can find comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering.
Services will be held at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, New York, on Thursday October 17, 2024 . Visitation will be from 11am til 1pm, and service at 1pm with Jeffrey Hackett officiating. Pallbearers will be Todd Hackett, William Highfield, Corey King, George McCracken, Daryl Cross, Devin Cross. Burial will be in Virgil Cemetery.
