(Bill) Parker Bayley, 88, of Freeville passed away on June 12, 2013 at home. He was born July 15, 1924 in Peacham, VT to Safford and Anna Rust Bayley.

Luther (Bill) Parker Bayley, 88, of Freeville passed away on June 12, 2013 at home. He was born July 15, 1924 in Peacham, VT to Safford and Anna Rust Bayley.

Bill graduated from Burlington High School, where he was captain of the High School Band. In 1950 he graduated from The University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Economics. His college experience was interrupted by the Second World War where he served as a Tech 4 Medical Corpsman in the European Theater and earned 2 battle stars.

On March 6, 1948 he married Elizabeth Alden Winch in South Hero, VT. He worked as an accountant for Ralston Purina from 1950-1954, but never did like sitting at a desk. In 1955 they moved to Freeville, NY where Bill worked at the Park It Market in the meat department. In 1970 and Bill went to work at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He retired from there in 1988.

Bill was a lifetime member of the W. B. Strong Vol. Fire Co., serving as Chief from 1962-1964. He was on the Freeville Village Board from 1975-1985 and also served on the Board of Appeals as well as being on the Dryden-Freeville District Sewer Committee.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Bayley, daughter Patricia Derocher of Freeville, son Charles Bayley (Barb) of Brooktondale, grandchildren Bryon Hurlbutt of Freeville, Daniel Hurlbutt (Vickie) of Sterling, VA, Rachelle Derocher of Oconto, WI and Justin Derocher of Freeville. Grandson Thomas Hurlbutt has been living with his grandparents doing whatever he can to allow them to stay in their home.

He is predeceased by his sisters Eleanor Bayley, Alma (Frank) Randall, Eloise Miller and Katherine (Kappy) White.

He will be buried in Willow Glen Cemetery. Services will be private when family is able to attend. Anyone wanting to make a memorial gift please send it to W.B. Strong Fire Dept., Freeville, NY.
