Louise Nelson Carlisle

LOUISE NELSON CARLISLE, age 93, formerly of First Street, Ithaca, NY and most recently of the Groton Nursing Facility died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. Mrs. Carlisle was born December 28, 1913 at Etna, NY a daughter of the late John and Leila Coy Nelson. On Sept. 29, 1933 she was married to Glenn R. Carlisle in Ithaca who passed away May 7, 1999. Louise was employed for many years in the mail department at Cornell University and later worked in the cafeteria at Ithaca High School. She was a member of St. Paul’s United

Methodist Church. Mrs. Carlisle was often seen walking her dogs around the block which provided much joy. Even though she owned a car, she would rather walk "uptown" for banking, shopping and appointments. Louise attended to beautiful rose gardens at her home and enjoyed having friends and family stop in for a visit. Louise was not only a loving mother and grandmother, additionally she was a foster-grandmother to over ten infants and children, loving each one as if they were her own. Her favorite book was the Bible.

Survivors include her children, Mildred (William) Earl of Ithaca, Ross (Paulette) Carlisle of Newfield, Rosemary (John) Banas of Groton; grandchildren, Jeff Earl, Lynn (Mark) Weidman, Mike (Wendy) Earl, William Earl, Jr., Kim Carlisle, Brian (Brenda) Carlisle, Susan (Paul) Brown, Daniel Banas, Cody Banas, seven great-grandchildren and several foster-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her nine siblings.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Thursday, June 14th, 2007 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Robert McCune officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Friends are asked to consider a memorial to St. Paul’s UM Church, Aurora St., Ithaca, NY 14850, The Franziska Racker Centers, 3226 Wilkins Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Groton Nursing Facility, 120 Sykes St., Groton, NY 13073.
