Konrad Rueb

Konrad Rueb Sr., 90, of Locke, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on August 18, 2026.

Konrad was born on July 26, 1936, in Halsbach, Bavaria, Germany, to Gottfried and Gertrude Baunach Rub. He came to the United States in 1957 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in the late 1960s. During that time, his last name was changed from Rub to Rueb.

Konrad was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 30 years of love and partnership with his wife, Pat, who preceded him in death in 2024. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Noreen Totman-Nebbia; his daughter, Virginia Lyon (Michael), and their five grandchildren; and his son, Konrad Rueb Jr. (late spouse Lori Rueb), and their five grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Konrad will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pat; his parents, Gottfried and Gertrude Baunach Rub; his brothers, Joseph, Eugene, and Hans; and his sister, Gertrude, all of Germany.

Throughout his life, Konrad was a hardworking and dedicated man. He worked for Dugan Brothers Bakery in New York City and later held positions with several Cortland-area companies, including Smith Corona, Allied Van Lines, and Grand Union, where he worked as a butcher. He also worked as a custodian at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) in Dryden. In 2013, he retired from the Homer School District after 20 years of service as a school bus driver.

Above all, Konrad was a farmer at heart. He took great pride in working the land and tirelessly raising beef cattle and pigs on his property in Locke, providing food for his family and finding purpose and joy in the work he loved.

Konrad and Pat also shared many wonderful memories traveling back to Germany over the years to visit his family. Those trips were especially meaningful to him and allowed him to remain connected to his roots and the people he loved.

Konrad leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a life lived with purpose. His passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, but comfort can be found in knowing that he is now at peace and reunited with his beloved Pat, whom he missed dearly since her passing in 2024.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
