Kent Tryon, a man of unwavering strength, deep devotion, and boundless generosity, left this world peacefully on August 22, 2026, at his home, wrapped in the warmth of his family's devotion. Born on April 3, 1959, Kent was the cherished son of Marita K. Tryon and Lynnford W. Claypoole and was lovingly raised by his dear father, Kenneth E. Tryon, and stepmother, Janet K. Tryon.

A beloved husband, Kent married the love of his life, Elaine M. Hopkins, on February 16, 1985. Together, they celebrated 41 beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in unwavering commitment, laughter, and cherished memories. Kent's legacy lives on through his children, Brian (Kazia) Tryon, and Danielle (Chris) Schwarz. Nothing in this world gave Kent greater pride than his family, and he loved his grandchildren—Jace Simmons, Jordyn Tryon, Lily Schwarz, and Syras Tryon—endlessly. Though heart-wrenching, it was the absolute honor of his daughter's life to hold his hand and care for him through the final weeks of a brief but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

Kent served his country with distinction as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1994 as a Pershing Missile Crewmember. His service was recognized through numerous commendations, including the Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Expert and Marksman Badges.

Revered for his booming, comforting voice—reminiscent of Sam Elliot—Kent carried an easy warmth that made everyone feel safe and valued. He had a profound love for the outdoors, whether crafting a new woodworking project or enjoying a quiet evening by a crackling fire with a cold Saranac beer. Above all, he found freedom and quiet peace on the open road with his motorcycle.

Kent possessed the true heart of a lion. He was the first to drop everything to lend a helping hand, selflessly giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His commitment to serving others extended deep into his community: he served 15 years with the Patriot Guard Riders as a Ride Captain, dedicated time to Wreaths Across America and countless Walmart Heart events, volunteered for 13 years with the Dryden Fire and Ambulance, and served on the Board of Twin Tiers Honor Flight.

Kent is predeceased by his birth parents, his father Kenneth E. Tryon, his grandparents Howard and Marian Havington, and his brother Robert Scott Claypoole. He is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, his children, his deeply loved grandchildren, and his siblings Jen (Jim) Grady, William Claypoole, and Lynnford "Jason" Claypoole.

A service honoring Kent’s extraordinary life will be held on August 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dryden Fire Department, 26 North Street, Dryden, NY 13053. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Wreaths Across America, continuing Kent's lifelong mission of honoring fellow veterans.

Kent's presence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of bravery, unconditional love, and not so quiet grace will live forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
