JANE RUTH WOOD
On a picture perfect day in the Bahamas on a Disney Cruise with her beloved granddaughter Jennifer Iglthaler, Jane Ruth Wood (Baba) was peacefully called into the arms of our Lord.
Family, food, fun, travel, and Disney Cruises were what Baba loved most in the world. On October 23 while relishing the beauty of the Caribbean with Jennifer, having enjoyed a delicious chocolate soufflé, Baba left us after giving her family a lifetime of unconditional love and support which will continue forever through her positive spirit and soul.
Baba is survived by her granddaughter Jennifer Iglthaler who lived with and cared for her with devotion and love every second of every day; her daughters, Susan Iglthaler (George) and Debra Wood Perosio (John Zick); and her grandchildren, Rebecca Perosio, Sarah Perosio, Taylor Perosio and Jake Iglthaler.
Baba always had a smile on her face and a soft shoulder to cry on. She was a beacon of optimism which energized everyone around her. She was the holder of family traditions: Thanksgiving, Christmas, which was her very favorite holiday, and the cherished Easter egg hunt which continued even after her grandchildren were grown adults!
There are few great teachers in the world today. Baba was one of them. Her biology classroom in Peekskill High School was always filled with students before and after school. After retiring from teaching she started a new career at Mann Library at Cornell University where she was every one's grandmother and worked until she was 83 years old.
Baba was a special mother and grandmother. She cherished her family and orchestrated family trips around the corner to the local pool for swimming lessons and afar to the Caribbean and Europe. We all traveled with Baba… she showed us the world in so many ways. Our most beloved travel spot was going to the "shore" in Lavallette, New Jersey. Every day we went to the ocean carrying multiple umbrellas, what seemed like a dozen chairs, piles of towels and sand toys overflowing the beach bag and of course, always enjoyed ridiculous quantities of crumb buns from Kays.
While our hearts are breaking with our loss they are filling up with the precious and beautiful memories that we were blessed to have. Baba we love you and hold you in our hearts and souls for eternity.
The family would like to invite all of Baba's friends to join us in a celebration of her remarkable life at 6 pm on Friday evening October 30, 2015 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY followed by a service at 7 pm with Rev. Harold Wheat officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tompkins County Public Library, 101 E. Green St., Ithaca, NY 14850 or American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
