JAKOB RUEBEL, age 82, of Ridgecrest Road, Ithaca, NY passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Cayuga Medical Center after becoming ill on Monday. Jakob was born in Yugoslavia on September 4, 1934 and immigrated, with his father, to the USA in 1952. He was the son of the late Jakob and Christinia Ruebel. Upon arriving in America he settled in King Ferry and later relocated to Danby. Jake worked in construction for many years and made friends wherever he was. A "Jake of All Trades", he would gladly lend a hand to anyone in need and never asked anything in return. He was known for his infectious smile and laughter as he embodied life to its fullest. Jake was proud of his large and loving family and his accomplishments. He enjoyed family gatherings, was an avid fisherman who kept his favorite spots to himself. He knew Cayuga Lake so well that the only ones who will not mourn his passing are the fish. He was the oldest member of the Ithaca Moose Club and also was a member of the Lions and served as master of the chicken barbeque. Jake was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, great great-grandpa, uncle, brother and friend. He will be severely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Snow Ruebel, his children, Jakob, III (Terry) Ruebel, Heidi (Butch Miller) Ruebel, Cathy (Martin Williams) LaMorie, Crista (Ed) Gee, Viktor (Kim) Ruebel; step-children, Johanna (Patrick) Shehu, Jenny Arrison, Jeannie (Rick) Grover, Jackie (Carl) Whiting; sisters and brothers-in-law, Henrietta (Stephen) Lectric; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl (Helen) Ruebel and a sister, Katherine Ruebel; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Jake is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mildred Clark, Glenda Joiner; a brother-in-law, Charles (Gen) Myers, sisters-in-law, Nancy (Charles) McDaniels, Beverly Swenson and He was predeceased by his parents, Christina and Jakob Ruebel, Sr., his step-mother, Mary Ruebel, his first wife, Irene; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Leah Snow; a brother-in-law, Melvin Swenson and a granddaughter, Jessica Tallman.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY on Friday after 10 AM to the time of the service. Burial will be private. Memorials are directed to the charity of your own choice.
