Gerald R. Mapes

GERALD ROBERT MAPES, age 89, of 2 Leisure Lane, Freeville, NY passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2011 after a brief illness. Gerald was born August 4, 1921 in Elmira, NY a son of Leon and Carrie Burbage Mapes. His early years were spent in Elmira until his family moved to Watkins Glen where Gerald was graduated from High School. His employment included farming, bus driving, construction and lastly he worked as a Parts Dept. manager for several Ford garages until retiring from Cortland Ford. Jerry was a member of Stone Hedges Golf Club, Dryden Senior Citizens, W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Company and the Etna Baptist Church. His wife, Mary Vancise Mapes died in 1992.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Mapes of Elmira; loving neighbors, Kathy and Bob Camilli; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3 PM, Thursday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Friends are invited to visiting hours from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, June 1 and from 10 to 11 AM Thursday, June 2, at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY.
