George A. Wood, 72, of Newfield, NY, passed away on April 28th, 2026.

Born on February 21, 1954, in Ithaca, New York, George was the son of Alfred Wood and Lois Van Etten Wood. He was known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.

George worked for many years at Emerson Power Transmission, where he was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, and tackling projects as a skilled handyman and carpenter.

He also loved playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle, and was well known among friends and family for both his competitive spirit and sense of humor.

George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who valued time spent with loved ones. Whether helping with homework, watching movies, or simply being present, he made family his priority.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Wood; his children: Rachel (Wood) Stamp and her husband Logan Stamp; Elizabeth Wood and her husband Majed Alsam, along with their children Azeel, Elyas, and Adam; and Serena Wood.

He is also survived by children from his earlier marriage to Christina Maricle Wood: George E. Wood and Diana Lousie Webb, and his children Mathew Wood, Mara Dean, Georgia Pratt-Wood, Johnathan Arroyo, Brynn Louise Wood and Isla Louise Wood; Jon Wood and his wife Colleen, and their daughter Kayla; and Jamie (Wood) Clark and her children Tyler and Kelli Clark.

George is also survived by his siblings: Sandy Woodard, Sally Saunders, Lewis Lent, and Jackie Lovell and her husband Ross Lovell.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Lois Wood; his sister, Mary Lent; and his brother, Mark Wood.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 3rd at The Mecklenburg Firehall at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to (charity or organization)

George will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
