Gaylord Veit III passed away peacefully on June 19th following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 18th, 1956 to Gaylord Veit, Jr and Marilyn Veit and grew up in Ithaca, graduating from Ithaca High School in 1974. After high school, he went on to have a career as a chef at many restaurants locally as well as Florida, the highlights of which were as manager of food services at Rock Crusher Canyon in Tampa where he met and cooked for Willie Nelson as well as a time spent as a personal chef for Ted Williams. Locally he cooked for Cornell Dining, Ithaca Bakery, L-Auberge among many others and later in his career at Uncle Louie's in Cortland. Following his retirement, Gaylord loved cooking for his family and introducing and fostering a love of cooking with his granddaughters. Recently he especially enjoyed the opportunity to be a member of the Sweetland Farm CSA where he got fresh produce and a weekly bouquet of flowers for his wife. Gaylord loved coin and baseball card collecting, garage sales, collecting cookbooks and coupon shopping.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Veit, loving wife Kelly (Herson) Veit, his children Jennifer Veit, Jamie Veit, Kristina Veit as well as his granddaughters Kara (Rocky) Dunham and Olivia Veit and his sisters Penny Nugent, Sherri English, and Christine Veit as well as many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father Gaylord Veit Jr, his in-laws James and Shirley Herson. as well as brother-in-law Mike Herson.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
