ERWIN A. HEFFRON,
age 75, of 262 Main St., Newfield, NY passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at Elcor Health Services, Horseheads, NY after years of declining health. Erwin was born Oct. 13, 1934 in Caroline Depot, NY a son of the late Berkley and Jessie Mix Heffron. He was raised in Caroline Depot, Brooktondale and was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1953. On April 30, 1955 he was married to the former Maxine A. Crispell. Erwin was employed for many years on his father-in-law’s farm, Begeacres and Dairylea. Erwin and Maxine operated Hughes Grocery on Clinton Street in Ithaca until 1981 and later he was a self employed building contractor, home builder and repairman. Erwin was a member of Peoples Baptist Church of Newfield and was a founder and Commander of the AWANA youth group for many years. Erwin was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Maxine of Newfield, his children, Gary (Darla) Heffron of Newfield, Karen (Norman) Hoffman of Newfield, Susan (Kenneth) Mead of Williamsburg, VA, and Rodney (Amy) Heffron of Newfield; siblings, Ellen Heffron of Stockton, CA, DeForest (Jane) Heffron of Lansing, Elnora Teeter of Ithaca, Inez (William) Toth of Melbourne, FL, Leo (Barbara) Heffron of Lyman, SC, Lura (John) Arcangeli of Enfield and Duane Fish of Freeville; fourteen grandchildren, Josh, Gary,Jr., Cory and Jorja “Devon” Heffron, Jennifer and Jeremy Parker, Val Hoffman-Schott and David Hoffman, Kerri and Kim Mead, Billie Jo, Daryl, Shea, Erwin Thomas Heffron; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Ivon Heffron.
A celebration of Erwin’s life will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the Peoples Baptist Church, Newfield. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the church. Those wishing to remember Erwin are asked to consider a memorial, in lieu of flowers, to the Missionary Fund of the People’s Baptist Church, 364 Main St., Newfield, NY 14867.
