Elizabeth (Lib) Carpenter Delahanty,
84, died peacefully at Cayuga
Medical Center on March 19, 2007 surrounded by her children and
grandchildren.
She grew up during the Great Depression, moving frequently with her
parents, sister and brother. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing
from Cornell University, working as a nurse until marrying Donald D.
Delahanty, DVM in 1948, and starting a family. She returned to her
profession as the children grew, providing years of caring service.
She worked at Southworth Library in Dryden, and organizing their
historical archives convinced her of the need for a Dryden Historical
Society, which she helped to found, and served as the first president, in
1981. She was an elder in the Dryden Presbyterian Church, was involved in, and later attended the Unitarian Church and Forest Home Chapel in Ithaca.She is survived by children Michael (Susan) of Ohio, Mary of
Massachusetts, Sara of New York, Timothy (Kathryn) of New York, Alice
(Philip) of Wisconsin, and ten grandchildren. She was predeceased by her
husband, Donald and daughter, Susan.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth requested donations to your local
chapter of the American Red Cross. There will be a memorial service to
celebrate her life on July 21st, 2007 at First Unitarian Church of Ithaca at 11 a.m.
