In Loving Memory of Edith E. Eaton

October 17, 1948 – May 12, 2025

Edith E. Eaton passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love and care of her

devoted family on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Edie was born on October 17, 1948 in Cortland, NY. She grew up alongside her four siblings and

loving parents, the late Clifford and Alma Scutt. She married the love of her life, Edward A.

Eaton, beginning a journey of deep love and partnership that would span more than five

decades. Edith was known by many names throughout her life: Honey by her loving husband,

Mom, Edie, Snookie, Sweetie Edie and her most affectionate title, Gma.

Edie dedicated 37 years of her life to Dryden Agway, where she was a friend to both colleagues

and customers. She always stayed active in her community giving her time to the Virgil Youth

Commission, Virgil Town Board and the Virgil United Methodist Church.

Edie enjoyed bowling for many years and always made it her goal to achieve high average for

whatever league she was in. Edie was an avid bird watcher and fan of the New York Yankees,

but she loved nothing more than spending time with her family, whether watching kids swim in

her pool, sitting on the deck laughing or serving as the official “Barber Zoo Uber.” Gma enjoyed

being Paisley’s biggest fan at sporting events, Huxley’s favorite person to share snacks with and

enjoyed Friday Night Pizza every week with Piper, Octavia, Koden and Kinsley.

Edith is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ed, her children Lorraine (Ric) Barber and Chip

Eaton. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She also treasured her

lifelong friendship with her best friend, Sandy Price — a bond built on laughter, loyalty, and

unwavering support. She was predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne Eaton.

Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to live on in all those who were lucky

enough to know her. She will be dearly missed, forever remembered, and always loved.

The family will receive friends from 10-11am, Monday, May 19 th at the Virgil United

Methodoist Church. Services to follow with Pastor Steph Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virgil United Methodist Church.

Out of town friends and family are welcome to watch the services via livestream at Virgil
