DOROTHY F. DEMING, age 93, formerly of Dryden, NY passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Cortland Park Center, Cortland, NY after an extended illness. Mrs. Deming was born September 15, 1919 in Utica, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Cahill. She was graduated from Whitesboro High School and married William H. Deming on November 23, 1944 in Whitesboro.

Mrs. Deming was born September 15, 1919 in Utica, NY, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Cahill. She was graduated from Whitesboro High School and married William H. Deming on November 23, 1944 in Whitesboro.

“Dody” was employed as a secretary for many years at the George B. Bailey Insurance Agency and later at the Cornell Law School. Dorothy enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and baking. She was an active member of Holy Cross Church in Freeville. Dorothy was a loving, devoted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her nephew Thomas Cahill III of New York City was a constant presence in her life. Dorothy’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Cortland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the loving care they gave to Dody.

Predeceased by her husband in 2004, she is survived by daughters, Kathryn (David) Jacobsen of Cortland and Ann (Robert) Petkovsek of Finksburg, MD and a son, John Deming of Centerville, VA; granddaughters, Beth (Chris) Bryan, Amy Petkovsek and Maryann (fiancé, Jon Pogue) Petkovsek. She was also predeceased by her brother, Thomas Cahill of Utica and her sister, Catherine Doane of MD. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, May 10, 2013 in St. Margaret’s Church, Homer, NY, with Father Paul Alciati as celebrant. Private burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Family will receive friends at church, one half hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Southworth Library, P.O. Box 45, Dryden, NY 13053-0045.
