Donald E. Ordway, age 82, of 30 Yellow Barn Rd., Freeville, NY passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born May 31, 1930 in S. Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Earl W. and Lola Scoville Ordway. He graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a B.S. in Engineering Physics and in 1956 with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
He was one of the founders of a research group at Therm, Inc. and then went on to form the company, Sage Action, Inc. in 1968; a research and development company specializing in air flow visualization. On July 12, 1953, he married the former Audrey MacKay at Cohoes, NY. He was a long time member and former President of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce and a long time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Audrey M. Ordway at home, Mr. Ordway is survived by his children, Pamela K. (Donald) Ennis of Moravia, NY, Jepson (Sharon) Ordway of Freeville, NY, Bradford (Dianna Smith) Ordway of Mesa, AZ and Nathaniel (Maria) Ordway of Cicero, NY; grandchildren, Molly (Grant) Denis, Noah Ennis, Krista Ennis, Faith Ennis, Jordan Ennis, Melanie Ordway, Garrett Ordway, Audrey Kate Ordway, Brian Ordway, Mary Kate Ordway; three great granddaughters; sister, June (Robert) Lockwood of S. Glens Falls, NY; brother, Harold Ordway of Patillas, Puerto Rico and several nieces and nephews. In addition, he was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Ordway and his sister, Joy Geyh.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at St. Paul’s UMC, 402 N. Aurora St., Ithaca with Rev. Eunice Tabor officiating. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. There are no calling hours. Friends may greet the family following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UMC, 402 N.
