Dona M. (Sands) Abbey

Dona M. Abbey, age 89 of Cortland, NY passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Crown Center in Cortland, NY

Born December 19, 1931 in Seattle, WA she was the daughter of the late Hans and Thelma Armstrong Sands.  Dona was a graduate of Cincinnatus Central School and worked for many years, in different departments, at Smith Corona prior to retirement. While raising her family, Dona loved attending horse pulls, camping and especially bowling.  She was a member of the Cortland Bowlers Hall of Fame.

Dona is survived by her three sons, Wesley (Sheila) Abbey, Dana (Angela) Abbey and Gary (Loretta) Abbey; sister, Carolyn (Tiny) Sands; brother, David Sands; special friend, Tiger; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, Dona is predeceased by siblings, Eugene Smith, Donald Sands, Thelma (Toby) Balmas and Christine Morris.

A Memorial service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY with Pastor Dave Carter officiating.  Burial will follow at McLean Rural Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Dryden VFW following the burial.
