Don C. Trombley, age 71, entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, May 7th , 2025. He
was born in Tucson, AZ, on August 7th , 1953, to C. Donald Trombley and Dolores J.
Hakin Trombley. Don was a resident of Crown Park Nursing Center at the time of his
passing.
Don graduated from George Junior Republic, Freeville, NY, in 1971, where he learned
the trade of carpentry. Following high school graduation, he attended SUNY Cortland,
where he met his wife, Jodi.
Don was intelligent and enthusiastic about many things and some of those things
became his occupation. He was an excellent carpenter, as a framer, finisher, or cabinet
maker, working in the area on and off through the years. In the late 70’s, he opened a
bicycle shop, Crown City Cyclery. He was an expert at any bicycle repair which dubbed
him the nickname “Doctor”. He was known to help many neighborhood kids with their
flat tires and handlebar or seat adjustments. Don loved to shop, and his retail therapy
afforded him a business where he collected and sold his many finds from auction
houses, rummage sales and roadside piles. If it was broken, he could fix it or talk
someone else to fix it. He was a great salesperson!
His livelihood ended due to disability brought on by diabetes which caused much havoc
in Don’s life and body. Eventually, he lost a portion of his right foot and suffered from
other diabetic complications. Those complications required he have assistance for daily
living and the reason he lived in Crown Park Nursing Center. ‘Crown’ became his
home, and he loved it there. He loved the staff that took care of him with love,
compassion and dignity, and he loved many of the residents as well. You could find him
gathered with his friends, enjoying coffee and a donut here or there.
The most important aspect of Don’s life was he never lost faith. Faith that one day he
would meet his Maker and be made whole again. With his faith in Jesus Christ as his
Lord and Savior, he believed “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”.
He honestly looked forward to going HOME, to reap all the promises of God.
Don is survived by his son, Ryan Trombley (Haiku, Hawaii), his daughter Laura
Trombley (Syracuse, NY), their mother, Jodi Dolan Trombley (Homer, NY); and his
daughter, Juanita Gregg (Austin, TX); his siblings Diane (Brian) Trombley Mix (Freeville,
NY), Donna Trombley (Tucson, AZ) and Dan (Lisa) Lucas (Tucson, AZ), niece, Layla
Trombley (Brian Swindon) (Cortland, NY), nephews Jason Trombley (San Diego, CA),
Dylan Lucas (Tucson, AZ). He was predeceased by his parents, C. Donald Trombley,
Dolores J. Lucas, his paternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Trombley, his maternal
grandparents, Anna and John Hakin, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Don’s life will take place at Crown Park Nursing Center at a date to be
determined. His final resting place will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Mooers Forks, NY,
with his father and grandparents – his final wish.
