Skala
Nov 14, 1957 — Aug 21, 2026
Delanson, NY
Cindy A. Skala, 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, at Albany Medical Center. Cindy was born on November 14, 1957, in Cortland, N.Y., and raised in Virgil, N.Y. She attended Cortland High School, Class of 1975, and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from SUNY Oswego, before completing her Master's degree at Syracuse University. Cindy devoted her professional life to serving children and families as a social worker at Glendaal Elementary School, where she worked until her retirement in 2018. She approached her work with compassion, patience, and a steady sense of purpose. Her colleagues and the many people she helped knew her as someone who listened carefully, cared deeply, and offered support with warmth and understanding. On August 22, 1981, Cindy married her beloved husband, Robert, known affectionately as Bob. Their marriage was a source of great joy and companionship throughout her life. Together they shared a life filled with love, friendship, and many cherished memories. Cindy and Bob were blessed with a daughter, Corinne, who brought great joy and love to each day of their lives. Cindy treasured her family above all else and found great happiness in spending time with them.
Cindy was a warm, welcoming woman who was strong, caring, and patient. She had a large circle of friends, and her genuine nature made it easy for others to feel comfortable in her presence. She was the kind of person who brought people together and made them feel valued. She loved dogs, especially her late dog Colby, who held a special place in her heart. Cindy also enjoyed traveling around the world and visited many countries over the years. Europe was her favorite destination. She also visited many of the national parks in the United States. At home, Cindy was an avid gardener and reader. She found peace and satisfaction in tending to her garden and joy in the quiet companionship of a good book. She also loved crafts and took pleasure in creating with her hands.
Cindy was predeceased by her parents, John "Skip" and Barbara (Barrow) Palmer; and her sister, Cheryl Palmer.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Bob, she is survived by her daughter, Corinne Skala (Sam Wiley); her granddog, Marty; and a loving host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
