Charles W. Hart

Charles W. Hart , 59, of Ithaca passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH after a three year illness and while awaiting a double lung transplant. He is survived by his siblings, Ann Hart McGee of Charlotte, NC, Stephen Hart of Ithaca, Gregory Hart of Joplin, Missouri, and Carol Hart-Rickel of Charlotte, NC, two step-children, Charlie Miller and Stephanie Miller of Cortland, NY, ex-wife and best friend Pam Miller, fiancé Kathy Moyer and her children, Samantha, Zachary, and Elijah, and future in-laws and friends Fred and Barbara Goodwin,several nieces, nephews and grandchildren and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Hart, also of Ithaca.

Charlie was born and raised in Ithaca, NY. He graduated from Ithaca High school in 1971 and attended TC3 for Construction Management. Charlie is a Vietnam Veteran having served as a U.S. Marine from 1972 – 1976. He spent a few years in California and Texas working as a Steel worker. For the last 25 years, he managed his home improvement business Under Construction. When he could no longer manage his Construction business he worked at the Freeville and Lansing Xtramart.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 29 at 1:00 pm at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, NY. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm also at Perkins and a Military burial service will be held at Greenhill’s Cemetery, Dryden, NY. A reception dinner for friends and family who are able to join us will follow at The Dryden VFW post on Route 13 starting at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Charlie’s memory to The American Lung Association or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Charlie’s last wishes were to encourage and convince everyone to become organ donors and to quit smoking.
