With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carolyn Waltz, who left us on November 6, 2025, after a courageous years-long battle with her health. Carolyn was born on July 6, 1942, to Orrin and Rita Sampson. She was a beacon of laughter and love to all who knew her.
In March 1962, she married Charles Waltz, embarking on a remarkable 63+ year journey together that took them from New York to Alaska, to Arizona, and finally to Georgia. Their love endured every hardship and embraced every blessing, and together they built a legacy of faith, laughter, and resilience. After retiring from her career in Human Resources at the University of Alaska Anchorage where she was renowned for her work ethic and a heart committed to serving others, Carolyn remained active far beyond her professional life.
Following retirement, Carolyn was an active and cherished member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Blairsville, GA. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Carolyn was also an avid and gifted crafter and artist. She expressed her creativity through sewing, embroidery, and knitting. In her later years, she embraced the art of chip carving, transforming her husband Charles’s woodworking projects into intricate masterpieces, everything from furniture pieces to Bible boxes. Known for her quick wit and warm smile, Carolyn had a remarkable ability to lighten the mood and make everyone feel welcome and valued.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Charles Waltz; her children, Byron Waltz, Alisa (Kenneth) Curry, and Yancy (Connie) Waltz; her sister, Janice Klempa; eight grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Orrin and Rita, and her siblings, Orrin (Bucky), David, Marna, and Susan, who have surely welcomed her with open arms.
A graveside service will be held to honor Carolyn’s life on July 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Union Valley Cemetery in Union Valley, NY.
As we gather to celebrate her life, we hold dear the memories of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. Her memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
