Ada Ethel Homer Stevens, 86, of Cedar Run at Cortland Regional Nursing Center, peacefully went to be with Our Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.
She was born September, 3, 1926 on Snyder Hill Road. She was a lifetime resident of Marathon, Virgil, & Little York. She worked at Marathon Parachute Company during World War II, McGraw Box, Smith Corona, retired from SUNY Cortland (ASC), was a cook at Loring?s Crossing Youth Center, and also assisted at the Virgil Country Market.
She successfully achieved getting her GED in 1993

Surviving are her children Nancy Austin, Albert (Darlene) Stevens, Marie (Rick) Streeter, Alan (Sue) Stevens, Connie (Tom) Parmiter, her sister Amie Willis, and sister-in-law Francis Dellow and Cecelia Homer. Ada had 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces, and nephews. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Delmer & Ethel Homer, husband, Walter A. Stevens, son Arthur Stevens, grandson Jamie Austin, son-in-law Fran Austin, and siblings Dale, Delver, Denver, Donald, and Anna.

Ada was a charter member of Virgil’s Women’s Firemen’s Auxiliary, member of the Virgil Methodist Church, member of New York State Grange, very involved in 4-H youth program in Cortland County for all of her children, and was considered ‘Ma” to many other 4-Her’s. Ada was a leader in Virgil Hustlers & Chiricahua Warriors Horse Club with many trips to the State Fair, and exchange trips to Michigan. She won apple pie baking contest for several years at the Cortland County Junior Fair. She accompanied her husband on the bicentennial wagon train ride to Valley Forge and visited the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA in 1976. She was a member of Virgil and Harford Senior Citizens and Virgil Historical Society. She enjoyed her family immensely, attending many sporting events for her children and grandchildren. Ada was always there for “anyone” who needed help.
